Paint the town, laze on the beach

High above Newquay, The Blue Door is an uber-trendy escape for up to 20 family and friends and hens or stags right in the heart of Cornwall’s most-iconic town. Just 300 metres from the sand, you’re perfectly placed for chilling in the hot tub, barbecuing on the terrace, painting the town and lazing on the beach.

Coastal Cornish cool

High on the clifftops above Newquay, just 300 metres from the North Atlantic coast, The Blue Door offers an uber-trendy escape for up to 20 family and friends or hens or stags right in the heart of Cornwall’s most-iconic town. A place to watch the surfing waters roll endlessly in from the terraces and picture windows.

Pick from six beaches, then come home to catch-ups around the terrace’s wood stove and bubbly stargazing in the eight-person hot tub. Inside, there’s a coastal Cornish cool to The Blue Door, with surfing pictures and heritage Newquay artwork on the walls with clean blues and whites dotted throughout.

Fill your evenings with movie mayhem on the full Sky package, Amazon Prime Video or Netflix on the lounge TV, and keep the entertainment coming with a telly in every deluxe, en-suite bedroom. You’ve got six, since you ask: five doubles and a bunk that makes for multigenerational flexibility.

Cook on the fan oven and pour the wine and pass the bread rolls around the long table with the bench seating for 14 or sear your stakes on the barbecue out on the terrace. The Blue Door is perfectly placed for nightcaps and nights out, nights in and days on the beach, seafood suppers and midnight memories.

Hot tub and sun terrace

Park up in one of two allocated spots, drop your bags inside, then get out into the sunshine. Pick from two decked sun terraces with sea views, light the gas barbecue for a bangers-and burgers blowout, add a little vino from Wadebridge Wines, then bring yourself to the boil in the eight-person hot tub.

As the night draws in, wrap up in a throw and stay out to socialise under the stars around the wood stove next to the table.

In England’s Surfing Central, there’s a beachy feel to the décor at The Blue Door. Crisp blues and whites dominate amid pictures of surfers and heritage Newquay prints on the walls. Cool, washed-out hues colour your experience in a vibe that’s uber-trendy, yet offers enough of a family feel to make it the perfect beach escape for any big group.

After a day exploring Cornwall’s romantic north coast, come home to tasteful, opulent soft furnishings and occasional furniture. Get the gang together for nights around the full Sky package, Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. Post your bleachy, beachy holiday shots to Instagram with the BT Wi-Fi.

The Blue Door comes fully equipped with style and space, with a contemporary vibe that beautifully reflects its coastal location. We can help you gather, chill, catch up, celebrate, watch bad movies together, and remember what matters in life. And if you need to hang your wetsuit or store your surfboard, we can do that as well.

Cooking and dining

The dining table’s big enough for 14 and the kitchen comes fully equipped with a fan oven, grill oven and four induction hobs, so you can feed the 5000 without fuss. And if you want to turn water into wine, the Atlantic Vineyard can help. Eating al-fresco? The gas barbecue on the deck comes with views of the big blue, north-coast yonder.

If you’d prefer to simply stare at the view with a bottle of bubbles in your hand, talk to us about hiring a pro chef for the evening, for a hog roast, for a barbie or for a fully catered break. Getting used to putting your feet up? How about pizza from The Stable or the ultimate takeaway: fish suppers or curries from Rick Stein’s?

Fill a hole with handmade burgers from Belushi’s, piled high with good stuff like Monterey Jack cheese, smoky streaky bacon and blue Stilton. Or how about 12 Beach Road for Cornish fish, seaside signatures, grills, tacos and sourdough pizza, freshly cooked to order?

Get down to Cove 24 for red-lentil pasta or seafood linguine, then relax with a cocktail and a sea view in the upstairs lounge. For Australian fusion, Bush Pepper’s the place: Cajun-spiced kangaroo fillet, maybe? Or head to The Fish House Fistral, right on the beach and serving fish straight from Newquay harbour.

Bedrooms

And so to bed, with the sound of the surf in your ears and the briny aroma of the sea air in your nostrils. The Blue Door comes with six deluxe, en-suite bedrooms that will take a cot if needed, offering flexible, multigenerational space for up to 20 – plus telly in bed.

Ground-floor bedroom one sleeps two in a kingsize, while bedroom two sleeps six on the first floor in bunk beds. Bedroom three provides a kingsize bed and a radio, as does bedroom four with the addition of a sofa bed. Up on the second floor, bedroom five and six offer kingsize beds, with six adding a sofa bed.
