There’s plenty fresh air, football and fun out there among the ten acres of rolling parkland. But if you’re venturing out, you’ll have no shortage of options. Kick off with a wild time at the West Midlands Safari Park, complete with tigers, cheetahs, rhino, zebra and even dinosaurs.
Next up, it’s off to the National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham, with over 60 displays of freshwater and marine life. Head to Kidderminster Railway Museum to see memorabilia from the steam age or to the George Marshall Medical Museum for the apothecary shop, Victorian operating theatre and collection of death masks of hanged criminals.
Go back in time at Tudor House Museum to explore almost 500 years of history. See reindeer, rhea and meerkats at the Little Owls Farm Park and more of the same at Cob House Country Park. Test your climbing skills on a 3D wall or even the stalactites at Redpoint Climbing, or climb the eight-metre walls at Rock Up.
Catch theatre, movies and music at Malvern Theatre, or just the movies at Vue and Odeon. Bounce yourself into oblivion at Rush Trampoline Park. Or discover a world of sweet delights on a fun-packed family day out at Cadbury World in Bournville. Shop, tour the village, see chocolate being made and get interactive in Purple Planet.
Plenty big toys around here for grown-ups to get excited about. You can start by sliding back through the centuries at Witley Court, with its Italianate gardens and stories behind the people who once lived and partied there. Stay in the past and discover one of the finest medieval ruins in England at Ludlow Castle or beautiful Hanbury Hall.
If you’ve developed a taste for houses and gardens, try Hagley Hall, an 18th-century Palladian villa in a contemporary landscape and larger woodland, or Arley Arboretum, home to 300 species of tree. See one of England’s loveliest cathedrals at Worcester above the River Severn, or the Mappa Mundi at beautiful Hereford Cathedral.
Want to potter the shops? You could do worse than Ludlow’s wide range of independent shops and open-air market. For antiques, take a trip to Leominster, while in Malvern, you can pick from a huge range of local independent stores, cafes and big brands.
In Hereford, Chase Distillery is a single-estate vodka and gin distillery offering tours of its production facilities, tastings and a shop. Taste more produce at Oldfields Cider or Robinson’s Cider. Or enjoy the ultimate harvest festival at the Malvern Show; sausages, beer and music at Ludlow Food Festival; or ten stages of live music at Nozstock.
