Acres of timeless tranquillity

Play families or party at Clearview Retreat where up to 29 can come together to toast toes around the logwood fires, break bread around the hunky tables, steam in the sauna and bubble cares away in the hot tubs. Here on the edge of the glorious Peak District, outdoors wins too, with footy nets, barbie and acres of timeless tranquillity.

Party in the Peaks

Snuggled among Derbyshire’s ancient churches, rolling fields and inviting pubs, Clearview Retreat sits ready to play families or party. Accommodation comes split into two houses, but vast spaces offer scope to eat, drink and be merry together around hunky tables, big TVs and roaring fires fed with chunky logwood.

You can hunt and fish here, out on the edge of the glorious Peak District, and the Aga stands ready to toast the air and roast the day’s catch, be it fish or fowl. Rooms here are luxurious, gardens are luxuriant and the whole package comes spiced with toys and treats that’ll swing your party or sway the kids.

Get sweaty in the sauna. Shower off, pile into the two six-seater hot tubs by night and watch ancient constellations shoot across the clear skies. Kids will abandon iPads in favour of footy nets and acres of grounds in which to de-steam. Table football, table tennis and a toy kitchen complete the playful picture.

Luxury leaps out here, both inside and out. From the outdoor kitchen and barbie to the grand bedrooms and galleried landing. So bring up to 29 plus your dog, bring your folks, bring your hens, bring the office. Rent the small cottage and bring four more. This is your every-occasion rural retreat simmering away amidst the timeless tranquillity.

Gardens and grounds

The acres roll away, with uninterrupted views across the swathes of total tranquillity. Your eyes take you past rolling fields, ancient oaks and bleating sheep to a distant spire in the mist. You can chill so much here, you’d need a blast furnace to defrost. Don’t worry, the sauna awaits.

Out here among the greenery, only binoculars reveal any neighbouring houses. So turn up the Bluetooth, break out the steaks and get the barbie on. Wash up in the outdoor sink. Yes, this house is inside-out.

Kids will race towards the footy nets. Join them, or prop yourself up at the outdoor bar table for a Prosecco or a Peroni in the sunshine. When all you can do is crash, do it in style in the two six-seater hot tubs. Stare at the stars, watch the trees bend in the breeze, listen to the bubbles and the crickets. Debate the nature of relaxation.

Living spaces

Live life large and luxurious in spectacular spaces designed for big groups like yours. Clearview Retreat is perfect for families, perfect for hens, perfect for corporate groups. Two properties offer flexible fun, plenty of sofa space and satellite TV to follow the footy or fire up a film night.

Want to get your toes toasty? Kick off your shoes and socks and wiggle them in front of the burning logs on the open fires. Small dogs are welcome and yours will love the fireside feel. Get ready for a great Instagram snap. Rugs and cushions abound here beneath the big beams. Get comfortable, get cosy, get close.

Add a little atmosphere with the Bluetooth speakers – the neighbours are acres away. Get your competitive juices flowing in the games room, with table tennis or table football. Steam away the stresses and strains of life in the indoor sauna. Fire up the wifi for Netflix and noseying around the Net.

Party in the big spaces. Eat around the chunky tables, then clear the floor and dance. Or escape to nooks and crannies for a nap or a Nespresso and a novel. Pick your own pace of life. Relax, recharge and reflect among the rustic charm or dance yourself dizzy. At Clearview Retreat, you can be yourself, whatever that self might be.

Cooking and dining

Options for cooking are outrageously good. With hunting and fishing potential nearby, you can even catch it yourself. Cook outside in the wild blue yonder in the outdoor kitchen. Wash up afterwards in the outdoor sink. Then lounge around on the high stools by the bar table toasting your culinary prowess.

Alternatively, keep everyone toasty as you roast with a country-classic AGA. What will it be? Black pasta with salmon and dill, smoked-salmon pate with grilled sourdough, or maybe leg of lamb with rosemary, pine nut and raisin stuffing? Let the expert equipment unleash the inner Ainsley.

Keep the fridge full with wonderful fare from Betty’s Farm Shop, home to 24,000 free-range hens, freshly baked bread, cakes, jams and a café serving breakfast, lunch and lavish cream teas. It’s a similar story at Croots, a homemade deli with wines and spirits and fresh fish on Thursdays.

Eat out at The Horseshoes, a great gastro offering glazed pork fillet, monkfish wrapped in Parma ham and Derbyshire Longhorn beef rib-eye. Or how about Derbyshire Restaurant of the Year 2018 The Lighthouse, with a mouth-watering seasonal menu foraged from the local woods, fields and hedgerows?

Clear Meadow View is bulging with bedrooms, and all of them large, light and luxurious. This is sleep heaven: wake to the sound of the blackbirds and bleating sheep; drift off to the breeze in the boughs and the chirp of the crickets.

The smaller property is a tastefully converted Victorian stable block. It comes with a galleried landing and sleeps ten in three generously proportioned bedrooms. There’s a cot for the very young and family flexibility in the shape of zip-and-link in bedrooms one, two and four.

The larger house sleeps 15 guests in five bedrooms, four of which are en-suite. Bedrooms one to four are zip-and-link, while bedroom five offers four singles. Satellite TV gets beamed into every bedroom. Add cottage accommodation to cater for another four.

Family memories are made of long car journeys to country boltholes, with cries of ‘Are we nearly there yet?’ It’s a tradition rivalled only by the battle for bedrooms on arrival, or who can be first out to the footy pitch.

The great benefit of Clearview Retreat is that car journeys aren’t that long. Here on the edge of the Peak District, you’re pretty much central to everything. Journeys are just a bend here, a turn there and a quick whizz down the motorway.

On arrival, there’s no call for squabbling, either. All the bedrooms are big, beautiful and kid-friendly, although sleep might be at a premium in the four singles on offer in bedroom five. Expect late-night snacks, crumbs in the bed and pillow fights. Or just a sneaky Fortnite frenzy.

When they finally emerge, there’s plenty on site. Those balls and nets look enticing, and the games room with table football and table tennis will see hours vanish without a trace. Cots and highchairs are available for the very young. And if your kids can’t bear to leave your pooch behind, bring him along. Small dogs are welcome.
